Abracadabs Kept It Fresh As Hell At The Last Round Of Canna Golf
Golf carts lined the entrance of DeBell Golf Club, as some of the cannabis industry’s heaviest hitters gathered for a day on the green. On Friday, Dec. 1, Abracadabs hosted yet another vibey Canna Golf tee-off under cloudless blue skies and serene 75 degree weather.
When you think of Burbank buildings, traffic and infrastructure are usually the first things that come to mind. But DeBell golf club is an oasis within LA’s concrete jungle. The course evokes feelings of an open highway dripping with possibilities. The rocky hillsides cradle the green, as the club sits on the edge of a canyon teeming with wildlife; giving the course a tranquility unusual to a noisy metropolis. Families of deer grazed the green and sauntered into the hills, triggering a faint image of how LA once was circa 1900.
But the green was far from calm, which made the deer’s domesticated behavior all the more shocking. Weedmaps, KaBoom Extracts, High Times, Hakuna Supply, West Coast Cures and Hi-Rez all came in crews, while representatives from Speakeasy 710 and Medicine Woman came out to soak up the greenery. Each crew drove a golf cart or two around the course, which looked like a game of Mario Kart at times sans the banana peels and replaced with weed.
“Are you coming around with dab relief?,” a woman with long dark hair and bright honey eyes sitting in the passenger seat of a golf cart hollered. A crew drove past her and her friend smoking a blunt while simultaneously passing around a Nexus Skywalker OG pre roll. “No, but you can have some of this if you want,” said a guy in the other golf cart. He handed her the blunt and both crews merged to toke it out.
At hole 13 Dj Dags seamlessly blended groovy hip-hop jams, creating the ultimate sunshine, backyard party mix. Around 1 pm, a white shade structure was set up with tables, TV’s and an elaborate sushi bar underneath, making hole 13 the place to be—or the party hole, if you will. The master roller, King Tucks, crafted intricate sushi plates for everyone. “My joint rolling skills definitely helped develop my sushi rolling skills,” he said. “Rolling is what I do.”
A magician demonstrated his illusory, mind bending skills, causing people to huddle around in amazement. “I love the ganja magician,” said a guy in a baseball cap to his friend, as he dipped his Toro sushi in soy sauce. “Every event I see him at I always feel the same way. He’s the man, a myth and a legend—he’s the dude.”
A group of friends stood in a circle furiously patting down their pockets. “Do you have the lighter, bro?” one of them said to his friend. “No dude, I gave it back to you.” The group split apart for a second as the guy who was accused of losing the lighter ran to his golf cart to check if his light was there. The joint—if you’d even call it that—they were attempting to light had the dimensions of an adult’s forearm. It looked like a massive bundle of sage you’d find in a Venice Beach hippie den. As soon as the lighter fiasco was resolved, they lit it up Snoop Dogg-style joint and passed it around. Cheshire Cat smiles formed across the faces of those who imbibed.
The Canna Golf vibes were tight knit and family-like. It was easy to connect with others and make new friends—and what better friends are there than those who share an appreciation of the plant? But perhaps an angle of the Canna Golf experience that’s most overlooked is how beneficial it is between businesses. Yes, anyone can purchase a ticket and golf with their cannabis community. But the event also provides a platform for businesses to share ideas, network and bond in the name of herb, which are the necessary elements needed for creativity to flourish. Where else do you get an intimate, natural setting to relax, engage in real life Mario Kart, smoke herb, golf and make friends? Yeah.. not many.
It’s safe to say Abracadabs hosted another successful round of Canna Golf. People laughed, cried, smoked, hugged and even ran atop a row of golf carts. If this last event is any indication as to how their flag ship festival will be at the start of Spring, the cannabis community is in for a real treat. “This is definitely the best Canna Golf, yet,” said Michael from Long Beach. “Abracadabs is doing cannabis right. These are the best people.”
